4th suspect arrested in 2023 LA County carjacking spree

Authorities arrested a fourth man Wednesday alleging his connection to a three-week spree of armed carjackings in Los Angeles County late last year, federal prosecutors said.

Sergio Macias, 22, of South Los Angeles surrendered to federal law enforcement officials Wednesday morning and was arraigned in the downtown U.S. District Court the same day, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

Macias was the fourth person arrested with alleged connection to the carjackings that resulted in five vehicles and two large televisions being stolen.

Michael Anthony Fisher, 23 of Bell; Andres Silva Cerrilos, 19, of Buena Park and Jesse Gutierrez, 19, of Los Angeles were previously arrested.

The defendants were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit carjacking as well as various counts each of carjacking, attempted carjacking, interference with commerce by robbery and firearms offenses.

The defendants allegedly targeted car owners in Downey, Pico Rivera, Norwalk and Whittier between Nov. 15 and Dec. 9, 2023, and held them at gunpoint, according to the news release.

On Nov. 15, Cerrilos and Gutierrez allegedly stole two large-screen televisions from a Walmart in South Gate and threatened a store employee as they fled, the news release said.

If convicted, the defendants would face between seven and 25 years in federal prison.

The Downey Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the incident.
