PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A body was found in the water of the Columbia River near Broughton Beach in Portland Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

A Portland Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed to KOIN 6 News via email that "a body was found" near 4701 NE Marine Dr by an Airport Fire rescue boat in the water near there.

A Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesperson told KOIN 6 News via email that the MCSO River Patrol responded around 3 p.m. to a report of a body in the Columbia River.

"The body was recovered and transported by MCSO to the Gleason Boat Ramp to meet the [medical examiner]. The ME will take custody of the body and determine identification and cause of death," the MCSO spokesperson said. "MCSO detectives unit is responding and will be conducting a death investigation in conjunction with the ME’s investigation."

KOIN 6 also reached out to Portland Airport Fire and Rescue for more information. A Port of Portland spokesperson said in reply that MCSO is "leading the response."

On Saturday, officials said a man went underwater in the Columbia River near Lemon Island and never resurfaced. MCSO officials said at the time that they were unable to recover the body and that he presumptively drowned. It is unclear if the recently discovered body in the Columbia on Wednesday is related.

This is a developing story. KOIN 6 News will update this article if more information becomes available.
