'Stone cold phony!' Trump doubles down on questioning Kamala Harris' 'racial identity'

Former President Donald Trump is doubling down on questioning Vice President Kamala Harris' race.

The former president took heavy criticism after a segment of the question-and-answer session with the National Association of Black Journalists where he said, "I have known her a long time, indirectly, not directly very much. And she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I did not know she was Black until a number of years ago, when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. Is she Indian or is she Black?"

Despite the outrage, Trump took to his Truth Social platform later in the afternoon and said it even more explicitly.

"Crazy Kamala is saying she’s Indian, not Black," wrote Trump. "This is a big deal. Stone cold phony. She uses everybody, including her racial identity!"

He accompanied this with a brief clip of Harris cooking traditional Indian cuisine with Emmy award-winning actress and comedian Mindy Kaling.

Harris' mother is Indian and her father is Jamaican. She has consistently identified as mixed-race, with both Black and Indian heritage.

In response to Trump's comments, a number of far-right activists have pushed claims that Harris concealed or reinvented her race.

Laura Loomer, a failed congressional candidate whom Trump briefly considered for a role on his campaign, posted, " is a liar."
