Shocking moment driver is filmed trimming beard while travelling at 70mph on busy motorway

A VAN driver was spotted trimming his beard while travelling at 70mph on a busy motorway.

The man is seen in footage taken by police using clippers and then admiring himself in the rear-view mirror.

His hands were not on the wheel at the time and he now faces a dangerous or careless driving charge.

The clip from the M1 was recorded from a National Highways lorry, used by South Yorkshire Police to spy on drivers.

It was on patrol for five days this month and caught 240 motorists committing offences.

Roads policing inspector Matt Collings said: “Enforcing against those who pose a risk on our roads is daily business for officers and we’re always keen to make the most of being provided the cab by National Highways to support our work.

“We last carried this operation out in May, just under three months ago, and sadly within that short space of time a further eight people have lost their lives on South Yorkshire’s roads.

“We are committed to doing all we can to reduce road deaths and casualties, but we can’t be everywhere, road users must take responsibility for their actions and safety.”
