Good morning friends! The trade deadline has come and gone, and the dust is still settling. Here’s what you may have missed.
In Mariners news...
- Jerry Dipoto spoke to the media following the conclusion of trade season to recap how the team fared and how the market looked over the last couple of weeks.
Around the league...
- In the biggest move of deadline day, the Padres paid a hefty prospect price for the services of Marlins left-hander Tanner Scott for the remainder of the season.
- The Orioles added another starter for the stretch run by making a deal for Marlins lefty Trevor Rogers.
- The Guardians also added to their rotation depth by trading for veteran right-hander Alex Cobb.
- The Yankees bolstered their bullpen corps with the acquisition of right-hander Mark Leiter, Jr. from the Cubs.
- It was a hot market for relievers, and the Royals added one in the form of right-hander Lucas Erceg from the A’s. Kansas City also added to its infield depth by making a move for Paul DeJong.
- The Blue Jays teardown continued with Toronto shipping off right-hander Trevor Richards to the Twin Cities.
- The Mets welcomed another former Mariner (farmhand) to their ranks, trading for A’s starter Paul Blackburn.
- Not to be left out of the party, the Rangers acquired lefty reliever Andrew Chafin from the Tigers.
- As he seems to do every trade deadline, first baseman Josh Bell changed hands by moving from Miami to the Desert to join the Diamondbacks.
- The Pirates made a couple of small moves, netting Marlins outfielder Bryan De La Cruz and prying Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Blue Jays.
- In a somewhat surprising move, the Orioles traded for longtime White Sox desginated hitter Eloy Jiménez. In a last-second move, the O’s also acquired left-hander Gregory Soto from the Phillies.
- The Dodgers made a couple of deals at the buzzer, getting outfielder Kevin Kiermaier from the Blue Jays and starter Jack Flaherty from the Tigers.
- The Rays decided to take a chance on former top outfielder prospect Dylan Carlson in a swap with St. Louis.
- Outfielder Mark Canha is headed to the Bay Area with the Giants acquiring him from Detroit.
- In non-trade news, the Rays will be staying in St. Pete for the foreseeable future after a new ballpark was approved by the Pinellas County Commission.
- The Rangers suffered another blow in the form of an injury setback for young outfielder Evan Carter, who appears unlikely to play again in 2024.
- Jackson Holliday is getting another crack at things in the big leagues with Baltimore calling up the young shortstop from Triple-A.
