Kamala Harris’s first campaign rally took place in Atlanta last night, and everyone you’d expect to be there was there. All the major Georgia Democrats — Senator Raphael Warnock, Senator Jon Ossoff, Stacey Abrams, Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens — made appearances to stump for the vice-president, but the real stars of the show (other than Harris herself and that one attendee getting his life) were Megan Thee Stallion and Quavo.

Megan, wearing a blue pantsuit complete with a tie (and a crop top), performed her hits for the crowd and even managed to tie some of them into the major issues of Harris’s campaign. Before launching into “Body,” Megan told the crowd, “Now I know my ladies in the crowd love they body, and if you wanna keep loving your body, you know who to vote for!” Did Megan come up with that? A Harris staffer? Whoever it was, congrats on being brilliant.

The rapper also debuted a new affinity group for the campaign, one that sounds much cooler than “White Dudes for Kamala.” Please welcome to the political stage: Hotties for Harris.

Quavo, an Atlanta native, opted to give a speech instead of perform. Since the 2022 death of his nephew and bandmate, Takeoff, the rapper has become an advocate for gun-violence prevention. Onstage, Quavo insisted that Harris was the candidate who could bring about better gun regulations.

“One of these issues that I care about is resolving the gun-violence issue. You can’t understand the struggle of gun violence if you not in the field or in the heart of it … So, one thing I learned from working with Vice-President Harris is she always stand on business. From inviting me to the White House last year to discuss these solutions, to passing the biggest gun-safety laws today,” Quavo said.

The Harris campaign has several more rallies scheduled for next week, and I’d be surprised if we don’t see more celebrities coming out to support the vice-president. And don’t get me started on the Democratic National Convention. Chicago’s United Center is going to look like the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
