MS Dhoni Names THIS Indian Pacer As His Favourite

New Delhi: Former India skipper MS Dhoni names Jasprit Bumrah as his favourite bowler in the world. Interestingly, Bumrah played a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph as he was named as Player of the Tournament. The pacer produced magical spells throughout the tournament.

Getting impressed by Bumrah’s impact across all three formats, Dhoni picked him as his favourite bowler. However, he didn’t name any batter as his favorite, stating that the country’s abundant batting talent continuously amazes him.

“Current favourite, it’s easy to pick a bowler since Bumrah is there. It’s difficult to pick a batter because we have several good batters but that doesn’t mean bowlers aren’t good. It’s difficult pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best but then I see someone else he also looks great. As long as team India are doing fine, I don’t want to pick a batter but I hope they will keep scoring runs. However, I have picked my favourite bowler,” said Dhoni at an event.

Bumrah became second Indian player to win the Player of the Tournament award in T20 World Cup after star India batter Virat Kohli who clinched the award two times in back-to-back editions of 2014 and 2016. The 30-year-old speedster finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets under his belt from just 8 games at an average 8.46 and an economy of 4.17.

The Ahmedabad-born cricketer set a record for the lowest economy rate by a bowler in a single T20 World Cup edition, having played at least five matches. His standout performance came against Afghanistan, where he took 3/7 in four overs.

Earlier this year, he topped the ICC Test bowling rankings in February 2024 after achieving his best-ever match figures in India with 9/91 against England in Visakhapatnam. Though he was later overtaken by teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and now holds the second spot, the speedster will return to action in the home Test series against Bangladesh in September.
