Rensselaer man sentenced for gun possession
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Rensselaer man was sentenced in Saratoga County Court on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to a weapon charge earlier in the month. Thomas McCall, 35, was sentenced to five years in prison.
In March, Saratoga Springs police stopped McCall on South Broadway and found a Magnum .357 revolver and ammunition under the driver's seat. Police said McCall was in the backseat and had heroin, fentanyl and cocaine in his possession.
At the time of his arrest, he was charged with:
- Two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree
- Two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree
On July 10, he pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C violent felony. Police said he admitted to possessing a gun during the March traffic stop.
At the time of his arrest, McCall was a participant in the Albany County Drug Treatment Court program, but his placement ended with his arrest. On Tuesday, McCall was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.
