Vulnerable GOP House members show 'unity'—by attacking Harris

0

The assassination attempt on Donald Trump could have been a reset for the Republican Party. Its lawmakers could have taken the path the traditional media was begging for and channeled their hate in the name of unity. But that’s an awful lot to ask with Trump as their leader. Even the most vulnerable Republicans, who occupy districts that President Joe Biden won in 2020, can’t hide their true selves.

Take Rep. Anthony D'Esposito in New York’s 4th Congressional District, which Biden won by more than 14 percentage points. On a local radio show Tuesday, D’Esposito spouted a conspiracy theory that Vice President Kamala Harris took “the lead in the cover-up of Joe Biden being prepared to be the President of the United States.” He recently tweeted both that “Harris isn’t soft-on-crime, she’s simply in favor of it,” and that she’s a “radical leftist.”

This tweet might be his best, though.
