10,145 vacancies in BSF till July 1, 2024: MoS Nityanand Rai in Rajya Sabha

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, informed the Rajya Sabha that 10,145 posts are vacant in the Border Security Force (BSF) as of July 1. This includes 387 gazetted officers, 1,816 subordinate officers, and 7,942 other ranks. Over the past five years, 7,372 new posts were created, with the majority in 2024. The BSF has recruited 54,760 personnel during this period. The current strength stands at 2,55,663 against a sanctioned strength of 2,65,808. Special provisions for ex-Agniveers include a 10% vacancy reservation and age relaxations. The ministry has also established the Welfare and Rehabilitation Board for retired personnel.
