THE FATE of a hit Channel 4 reality show has been revealed amid a string of axes.

The commercial network was previously forced to axe hundreds of jobs across the UK and cut back on programming.

Brits Down Under was a popular reality show which followed a group of adventurous backpackers from the UK as they headed to the other side of the world.

They were transported to the Australian Outback to attempt to complete farm work in one of the worlds most extreme regions.

The hit programme aired earlier this year on Channel 4 as the 12-member group tried to live and work together.

Cameras captured every moment of their new lives as they worked the fields by day and partied hard in the evenings.

However, a source close to the show has now revealed that the hit series will not return for a follow-up.

They told The Sun Online: “Brits Down Under was only ever commissioned for one series.”

This comes after the network has been forced to massively cut back on programming.

Channel 4 previously announced plans to sell their London HQ and cut 200 jobs in the capital.

It also closed five of its terrestrial channels at the end of June.

Programmes to fall victim to the cuts included Steph’s Packed Lunch, Danny Dyer‘s Scared of the Dark, and The Andrew Neil Show.

The legendary former BBC broadcaster confirmed at the time that bosses had “no money” to spend on new shows.

Andrew explained: “It worked well, they liked it, it did well but like a lot of media organisations these days, they said to me quite bluntly, ‘we’ve got no money. We haven’t got any money’.”

Brits Down Under is available to stream on Channel 4 on-demand.
