Car expert urges petrolheads to snap up ‘great value for money’ super saloon with 167mph top speed from surprising brand
A CAR expert has picked out an incredible grand tourer from a surprising brand that’s really great value for money.
YouTube star Jonny Brighton of the channel Cars With JB recently got to test driver a stylish super saloon with a top speed of 167mph – and he’s claimed it’s “one of the best value for money grand tourers you can get on the market.”
At the top end, it can even hit 167mph[/caption]Kia‘s Stinger GT, built by the Korean brand from 2017 until 2023, is a brilliant set of wheels that packs plenty of punch under the bonnet – all the while offering executive levels of class inside.
In the video, Jonny picks up a 2019 example Stinger GT from car dealership Motorland located in Beckingham, and discusses how the car offers similar speed and comfort to famous luxury car brands, but at Kia-levels of great value.
Sitting inside the motor, he said: “It has a genuinely lovely interior – Kia aren’t really known for performance cars and this is one of the first ones we’ve ever seen on the market, and genuinely in here it is so nice.”
He says that the Stinger GT was priced at £40,000 from new – but second-hand example that he’s test-driving is up for sale for £25,000.
He added: “They generally start at around about the £18,000-mark, which is really good value for money for a relatively new hot saloon.”
Comparing it to cars from BMW, Audi and Mercedes, he said that its interior is both simple and classy, but not overly pretentious, adding: “You actually get a lot of spec for your money.”
Under the bonnet, the Stinger GT boasts a 3.3-litre twin turbocharged V6 engine that can make 365bhp – which is comparable to the BMW M2.
Jonny claims there’s two reasons why the Stinger GT has kept most of its value – and why they might be worth picking up.
He saidL “They come with a seven year warranty on them, that means that the earliest examples are only just coming to the end of their warranty life cycle.
“And two, I think they’re just generally pretty good cars, like everyone I’ve met who is a Stinger owner has had nothing but amazing things to say about them.
“The typical line is, ‘yeah, you know, the badge isn’t quite the same as a BMW or an Audi, but actually when I looked at the spec options, the spec on this is just better’.
“They’re a little bit different as well on the road; they’re not what you expect to see necessarily and honestly they serve a great purpose of being a great family car and also being a bit of fun day to day.”
Sadly, the Stinger was discontinued in 2023 simply due to a lack of sales.
However, they remain a great second-hand option that Jonny says is “the best at the daily driving part” of his car reviews that he’s driven so far.
He added: “This is a grand tourer and it needs to give you that kind of GT feel it wafts along so comfortably.
“I’m in eco mode right now, I’m not using too much fuel, everything is just nice and simple and sedate and comfortable.
“I’m hearing nothing from the engine, there’s no road noise, there’s no wind noise, it is very comfortable here.”
This comes as Audi revealed a radical redesign of its longest-running model that’s been transformed to an EV.
And Kia’s upcoming EV will be £1,000s cheaper than similar motors released from its rivals.
