I’m a makeup artist – my go-to products are aging skin’s best friend, don’t make a common foundation mistake
AN easily made foundation mistake can emphasize fine lines and wrinkles on aging skin, according to a makeup artist.
Laura Fairley shared her favorite beauty products and tips for applying makeup on mature skin.
Fairley is the founder and CEO of Laura Fairley Hair & Makeup, based in Scotland.
Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared tips for beautifying aging skin.
FLAWLESS FORMULAS
Fairley said cream products are “aging skin’s best friend” as many women experience dryness due to hormonal changes.
“I love using lightweight liquid foundations, cream blush, bronzer, and highlighter to give the skin a hydrating and luminous glow,” she said.
She advised against using any products that draw attention to the signs of aging.
“Try to avoid too much shimmer on the eyelids and cheekbones as it will only emphasize fine lines,” she said.
“Instead, choose products with a matte finish as these will give a more flawless, elegant finish to the makeup.”
When it comes to lips, Frailey said she tends to avoid using liquid lip stains on her clients.
“These can bleed into lines and are often quite matte which can appear aging,” she said.
“I prefer to opt for products with a more balmy, hydrating texture.”
TERRIFIC TECHNIQUES
Fairley said there’s a common misconception that the heavier the makeup the better for disguising the signs of aging.
However, it’s actually using fewer products that give a youthful appearance.
“For example, swapping a full coverage foundation for a more hydrating lightweight CC cream will give coverage without the product sitting in fine lines and wrinkles,” she said.
Rodial’s Lowlighter which costs $35 on the brand’s website and iT Cosmetics CC+ Cream priced at $47 are among her makeup bag staples.
She also routinely uses CC Red Correct by Eborian, which costs $46.

She revealed that focusing on improving the area around the eyes can make a dramatic difference.
“A couple of my most shared and simple tips for my mature clients to disguise the signs of aging are showing them how to correctly conceal dark circles before using a brightening concealer,” she said.
“These two steps immediately give a more youthful look.”
Fairley said she also focuses on achieving a balanced complexion for a youthful glow.
“Use the correct products to help reduce redness on the cheeks and nose due to conditions such as Rosacea,” she said.
“Light layers using the right products are better than one thick layer of the wrong one.”
