Sanju Samson fails to impress Gautam Gambhir in 3rd T20I against Sri Lanka

0

Sanju Samson yet again failed to live up to his expectations as the wicket-keeper batter was dismissed for a second consecutive duck against Sri Lanka in T20Is. After coming in as a replacement to vice-captain Shubman Gill in the second T20I, Samson got dismissed on the very first ball he faced. Then, in the third match when he was sent to bat on number 3, he again failed to make any contribution to India’s total and got dismissed for a duck on his fourth delivery.

Though he did manage to take 2 impressive catches in the final match of the series to redeem himself, still Samson must be aware that if he continues to give performances like these with the bat then he would go really down in the pecking order.

The Kerala batter made his T20I debut 9 years back but since then has only managed to represent the country 30 times in total. Even though he has been great as a player and as a captain for IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, still he has somehow consistently failed to translate his IPL form to the international level.

There is no reason for new India head coach Gautam Gambhir to be impressed by him. Samson must realize that in an ecosystem like India’s, one must make the most of every opportunity that comes their way.

His only meaningful contribution for India in the last six months was his inning of 58 against Zimbabwe in Harare earlier this month.

With the Men in Blue having a big number of batting talents available right now, Samson might never manage to play for the Indian team again if he doesn’t turn his form around at the international stage.
