Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas political Leader assassinated in Iran
Security agencies of the Islamic Republic of Iran have confirmed that Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, was targeted and killed by gunfire at his residence in Tehran, the capital of the country.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced in a newsletter that Ismail Haniyeh’s residence was hit early this morning, Wednesday, July 31st, resulting in “his (Ismail Haniyeh) and one of his guards’ martyrdom.”
Further details about the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh are not yet available, and the IRGC has stated that “the cause and dimensions of this incident are under investigation, and its results will be announced later.”
Hamas also confirmed the news of Mr. Haniyeh’s death in a statement released this morning in Tehran.
Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of Hamas, had traveled to Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Masoud Pezeshkian, the president-elect of Iran.
So far, no individual, group, or country has claimed responsibility for the assassination of the political leader of Hamas, and Israel has not commented on the matter.
