‘Job’ on Broadway: When a Therapist Becomes Their Patient’s Hostage
This an amended review from the original Daily Beast review, published in September 2023.
So, a third time seeing Job. Each time this 80-minute drama about a grindingly tense encounter between a therapist and patient has physically grown, from the most appositely tight confines of the SoHo Playhouse to the slightly bigger Connolly Theater to now a full and deserved Broadway engagement (Hayes Theater, booking to Sept. 29).
It became a cult hit thanks to word of mouth, and a grand social media boost via TikTok. And the crowds continue to come. After all, it’s short, it’s a thriller, and it has both a twist and multiple stings in its tail. Leaving the theater a few days ago, people were buzzing, shocked, asking really the same question—which shall not go revealed here, as that would spoil Job if you too book a ticket for its flawed thrill ride.
