Paris Olympics: What to look for, what to watch on July 31

0

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- It was a thrilling Tuesday at the Paris Olympics with Simone Biles and Team USA's women's gymnastics gold, USA women's rugby's thrilling bronze medal, and USA men's soccer's dominant win to make the quarterfinals.

For day five, the men's gymnasts return for the individual all-around while we will also have a busy night in the pool and for gold medal favorite American teams. Here is what to watch on Wednesday at the Paris Olympics.

Ledecky headlines busy night of swimming

After just three swimming finals on Tuesday, there will be five in Paris that includes the specialty event for Katie Ledecky. The 11-time Olympic medalist will be swimming in the 1500m freestyle final and is likely to win a second straight gold in the event.

Four other finals will also take place in swimming on night five and can all be seen live beginning at 2:30 p.m. on NBC4.

USA basketball, soccer play big matches

Two of the best American teams in Paris will be in action on Wednesday as they look to continue very strong starts. At 1 p.m., the U.S. women's soccer team looks to close out group play with a perfect record as they face Australia. They are already through to Saturday's quarterfinals.

At 3 p.m., LeBron James and the star-studded USA basketball team plays its second match as they face upstarts South Sudan. While on paper this seems to be a mismatch, South Sudan is fresh off a win and only fell to the USA by 1-point in an exhibition earlier this month.
