Right as they return to the spotlight, Halsey wishes they hadn’t. The singer’s last album dropped in 2021, and in the time since Halsey has been facing multiple illnesses. Now that a new album cycle is upon us, Halsey is calling out her fans for being “awful” to her. “[I]t seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am,” they wrote on Tumblr. “it’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency.”

Halsey’s latest single, “Lucky” was released Friday. It interpolates “Lucky” by Britney Spears and “Angel of Mine” by Monica. A Tweet appeared on Spears’s account claiming she was going to take legal action against Halsey for the song, only to get deleted shortly after. “For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video. I feel harassed, violated, and bullied,” read screenshot obtained by TMZ. Spears later deleted the tweet, writing “I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it.” Halsey retweeted, further cementing the pop star alliance.

Between the highly successful If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power and now, Halsey disclosed battles on multiple medical fronts: a lupus diagnosis in June, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) diagnoses in 2022. “long story short, i’m Lucky to be alive,” she wrote on IG while announcing her first single in a year, “The End.” In their Tumblr post, Halsey said “When I got sick all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what *this* is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”
