Brotherhood Podcast #31 - Cooper Flagg!
As we get to know Duke’s most promising recruit
The latest episode of the Brotherhood Podcast is out and the guest for episode #31 is the most celebrated recruit in recent years at Duke, Cooper Flagg.
The natural comparison is with Zion Williamson, but remember, there were a lot of questions about Williamson coming out of high school. People knew him as a spectacular dunker but few of us realized what a total baller he was. The better comparison may be Gene Banks, who came to Duke as the #1 talent in his class at a time when no one thought Duke could get a kid like that.
The consensus on Flagg is that he’s a generational player but he still has to prove it on the court and he has to have good luck too. Dave O’ Connell came to Duke with immense talent in the 1970’s but knee injuries destroyed his promising career. Banks was very good but Magic Johnson emerged as the best player in that class.
In this interview, Flagg talks about how he made his decision, the Select Team experience and this year’s promising Duke team among other things, including his assessment of Kon Knueppel which you’ll want to hear.
By the way, props to Caleb Foster. He didn’t really seem at ease for his first episode but now he’s vastly more relaxed and comfortable. He’s asking smart questions and getting good answers.
