Singer man killed in Beauregard Parish crash with dump truck
DERIDDER, La. (KLFY) -- A Singer man was killed Monday afternoon after running into the rear of a stopped dump truck in Beauregard Parish, authorities said.
The crash claimed the life of 46-year-old Christopher Burge of Singer.
Louisiana State Police Troop D began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on La. 3226 near the intersection with Glendale Road shortly after 1 p.m. Monday.
Investigators said a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Burge was traveling south on La. 3226 behind a 2019 Mack dump truck. Due to construction congestion ahead, the dump truck came to a stop. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet failed to come to a stop and struck the rear of the dump truck, officials said.
Burge was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was not injured in the crash.
While impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troop D has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 12 fatalities in 2024.
