Supreme Court rules no entertainment tax on online ticket booking charges

The Supreme Court ruled that no entertainment tax can be charged under the Tamil Nadu Entertainment Tax Act on online ticket booking charges for movies. This decision upholds a Madras High Court order from October 2020, which stated that the 1939 Tamil Nadu Entertainment Tax Act could not levy a tax on internet services provided by cinema owners.
