CHINATOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – The man convicted of fatally stabbing a woman in her Chinatown apartment back in 2022 is expected to be sentenced in a Manhattan court on Tuesday.

Assamad Nash pled guilty to killing Christina Yuna Lee the day before Valentine's Day. Surveillance video showed Nash stalking Lee into her building on Chrystie Street, according to prosecutors.

He then followed her up six flights of stairs into her apartment, where he allegedly stabbed her at least 40 times, per prosecutors.

Nash pled guilty to one count of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony.

The case spurred Mayor Eric Adams to meet with lawmakers in Albany in an effort to change bail reform laws.

Nash was arrested and charged with several other crimes just five weeks before Lee's death but was let go without having to pay bail. He was instead placed under supervised release but received no mental health intervention.

Adams created a new emergency task force to address the intersection of crime, mental health and homelessness in the city after Nash's indictment.

Nash is expected to be sentenced to 30 years to life in state prison.
