Vandals spray over traffic cameras in Limassol
Police on Tuesday were investigating an incident during which hooded men climbed up traffic cameras in Limassol and spray painted their lenses.
The cameras had been newly installed on Franklin Roosvelt and Omonia avenues, CyBC reported.
According to the report, the incident happened around 8pm on Monday, while a convoy was proceeding up the road to an open training session by players of Apollon and the perpetrators are thought to be football hooligans.
Footage of the two hooded and scarved vandals was captured on a mobile phone and seen by incredulous bystanders who witnessed them spraying blue paint on the traffic cameras before fleeing.
After the video made the rounds of social media, officers went to the scene for on-site investigations, Limassol police spokesman Lefteris Kyriakou told Philenews.
Evidence has been collected for lab testing and investigations were broadened to secure witness testimony, police said.
The procession of fans “of a certain team” who were on the move on the roads at the time, intended to go to the stadium where the first training session for the new season would be held, Kyriakou said.
