Three arrested after Limassol punch-up

Three people were arrested in Limassol on Monday night after a fight broke out in the city.

The police had been called at around 11pm, with bystanders reporting a mass brawl involving as many as 30 people.

When they arrived, most of those present fled. Their initial investigations at the scene determined that stones, firecrackers and fireworks had been thrown at a house, and that a 16-year-old boy inside the house had been injured as a result.

During subsequent patrols of the area, police pulled two cars over, finding one 27-year-old man and two 23-year-old men inside.

The trio were found to be in possession of “offensive weapons”, including iron bars, pipes, and crowbars, and were all arrested.

Police believe Monday night’s incident to be related to a mass brawl involving as many as 50 people in June.

That fight, which was sparked by personal differences between two families, had reportedly come about as a result of an incident of harassment of a young woman by a youth from one of the families.

The police’s investigation into Monday’s incident is ongoing.
