PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two drivers were left injured, one in critical condition, after a Vancouver car crash ended in flames.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded to the two-vehicle crash at the 15500 block of Highway 14 around 5 p.m. on Monday. Authorities said witnesses called 911 following the accident that occurred just before the 164th Avenue exit.

One vehicle rolled off of the road multiple times, and then caught fire. According to Vancouver firefighters, witnesses were unsuccessful at their attempts to put out the flames using fire extinguishers and pull the driver from the vehicle.

Officials said the first fire engine on the scene spotted a significantly-damaged Sedan on its side, off the road and engulfed in flames. Crews also found an adult male inside the vehicle.

VFD called extra resources to the scene, including a Battalion chief, a second fire engine and two ladder trucks with special extrication equipment.

The additional crews cut off the roof of the Sedan and removed the man from the vehicle within 25 minutes of their arrival. American Medical Response and Vancouver firefighters transported him to a nearby trauma center, where he suffers multiple serious injuries, including leg injuries and burns.

The second driver, identified as an adult female, removed herself from her vehicle. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and has been treated at an emergency room.

Washington State Police are investigating the accident.
