Wild and woolly
Hello Friends,
The swell’s still powering in but it’s raw and disorganised and the surf options are limited. Swell at sea was 4.6 metres at 13 seconds from the S-SE as of 0800 Tuesday morning. Wind was WSW at 12-17 kts at 0930, but we can expect it to come around to the south as it builds to 20-30 kts on what promises to be day of passing showers and wind chill.
Outlook is for another day of 4-5 metre swell that’s continuing to settle more to the SE. The bad part of the picture is that wind’s due to stay strongly southerly into Thursday. The swell models show average swell heights easing into the 3 metre range Friday and 2 metres on Saturday. At the same time the wind’s forecast to swing SW and then west by the weekend.
Know your limits friends, and study conditions before you jump in!
Forecast issued at 4:10 am EST on Tuesday 30 July 2024.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is weakening while a strong high pressure ridge extends across the inland, generating a vigorous south to southwesterly winds and large powerful southerly swells along the coast. These systems are forecast to be slow moving over the coming days and become the dominant features over the next several days before weakening later in the week.
