Gurgaon drew 214% of groundwater it recharged last year, study shows

Last year, Gurgaon extracted 214% of its rechargeable groundwater, highlighting severe overexploitation in Haryana, according to a government study. Rapid urbanization and unauthorized extraction have contributed to this crisis. The study indicated that Gurgaon, along with four other districts, may have no groundwater left for future use if immediate action is not taken to recharge water tables.
