MTA considers canceling express bus routes due to congestion pricing delay

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The MTA may cancel certain express bus routes to save money after the delay of congestion pricing, according to the agency.

The weekday express bus routes that could be affected include the BM2, BM5, SIM1C, SIM4C, SIM23 and SIM24 buses. They were added to the MTA's bus schedule just last month.

The move would affect riders in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island as soon as September.

The MTA said reverting back to the old schedule would save the agency nearly $900,000, with the board possibly voting on it as early as Wednesday.

Congestion pricing was set to go into effect on June 30. Cars driving south of 60th Street in Manhattan would be charged $15 during the day to enter the Central Business District.
