News and Notes: Guardians Win Series Against Best Team in MLB
News and Notes for Monday, July 29th, 2024
Jhonkensy Noel put a charge into Cleveland’s July stretch run with a three-run homer and Steven Kwan and the Guardians’ electric bullpen did the rest, beating the Phillies 4-3 on Sunday.
After an exciting series opening win and experiencing an absolutely devastating shellacking in game two, it was tough to say what to expect with Joey Cantillo starting the rubber match. I think I would say it went about as expected. Four hits, three walks and two ill-advised pitches to Kyle Schwarber that Schwarber hit a country mile. Good learning experience for Cantillo, but a good thing that Vogt decided to go “Playoff Bullpen Mode” and expertly used Cade Smith, Nick Sandlin, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis, Scott Barlow and the ever-reliable Emmanuel Clase to secure the win from the fourth inning on.
How about Big Christmas, though?

And Steven Kwan, matching his career total for home runs by hitting 11 in this season. And it’s only July 28th:
