Man in custody after SE Austin SWAT callout
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said officers took a man into custody after a SWAT callout in southeast Austin Sunday.
According to APD public information officer Lee Knouse, police responded to the 1500 block of Faro Drive around noon Sunday after getting reports of a physical disturbance between the man and a woman.
When officers arrived, the man had left the area, Knouse said. Austin-Travis County EMS also responded to the call. Paramedics treated the woman's injuries at the scene, police said.
Around 5:45 p.m., APD returned to the area after receiving more 911 calls about a disturbance. Knouse said that witnesses told officers the man had returned with a weapon so officers called for SWAT.
APD posted about the incident around 9:20 p.m. A KXAN photographer who arrived at the staging area said that he could hear loud bangs nearby.
By 10:30 p.m., APD had the man in custody, Knouse said. The man will be charged with one felony count of family violence involving strangulation. Knouse did not release the man's name Sunday night.
Knouse said that there is no continuing danger to the public, but police will remain on scene as needed during its investigation.
