BBC Breakfast pulled off-air and politics show switches channels in huge schedule shake-up

BBC Breakfast was pulled off-air on Sunday in a shock change for viewers.

The programme – which airs seven days a week – cut short on BBC One as Ben Boulos, 40, was hosting.

BBC Breakfast is fronted by a host of different presenters each week and ordinarily airs until 9am every Sunday.

Yet at 8am Ben bid farewell to viewers as he said: “That’s all from us for today from us on Breakfast.

“We will be back tomorrow morning from 6am – enjoy your weekend.

“Bye for now.”

As the Paris 2024 Olympics coverage began on the channel, this meant another schedule change for Sunday’s regular politics show.

Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg was shifted to BBC Two, yet kept the same 9am start time.

On Saturday, fans faced similar telly disruption as Naga Munchetty’s BBC Breakfast was pulled off-air two hours early.

Earlier this year, Ben was pulled off-screen for a whole month in a hosting shake-up.

Earlier this year, the Leicestershire native has jetted off on an adventure-filled trip across the US during which he headed to New York, New Orleans and Washington DC.

Meanwhile, this weekend, Saturday Kitchen viewers were also irked after realising not only had the show changed channels to accommodate for the sporting coverage, but that the episode wasn’t actually live.

Instead of airing a live show, programme bosses had opted to re-run a highlights reel of the best bits through the months.

It was dubbed Saturday Kitchen’s Tastiest Treats and featured recipes from chefs including Gennaro Contaldo, Yotam Ottolenghi and Paul Ainsworth.

Yet there may be a similar scenario next week, too.

Who are the current presenters of BBC Breakfast?

The flagship BBC show has had dozens of presenters during its impressive 40 years on air but the current stars are:

Jon Kay – Since 2022

Sally Nugent – Since 2021

Charlie Stayt – Since 2006

Naga Munchetty – Since 2014

Carol Kirkwood – Since 1997

After this weekend’s episode, Saturday Kitchen’s page on X posted a message which read: “Next Saturday we’re bringing you some of the funniest and most entertaining moments from #SaturdayKitchen!

“Join us next Saturday at 10am on @BBCTwo to see what’s included!”

The schedules were disrupted due to the first day of coverage for the Paris 2024 Olympics, following performances by Lady Gaga on the banks of the River Seine as well as Celine Dion during the Opening Ceremony.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
