HOMETOWN BOY (2.55 Uttoxeter, nap)
The Stuart Edmunds-trained stayer has had a terrible time of things since winning a valuable handicap hurdle at Aintree in April 2021.
He has managed just four starts since that memorable win, but looked back to somewhere near his best when hammering a decent field at Worcester last month.
He was hit with a 9lb rise, but he jumped brilliantly and a similar performance will make him hard to beat.
EMBESTO (3.12 Pontefract, nb)
Has always promised plenty and finally proved it when a close third in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot two weeks ago. This is a quick turnaround but he looks to be thriving and can take this competitive Listed contest before going onto better things.
GLINGER FLAME (3.25 Uttoxeter, treble)
Won three times last year and shaped as if there was more left in the tank when the emphasis is on stamina. He loves good ground and has the class to overcome top-weight.
Templegate’s tips
Pontefract
2.12 River Seine
Sets a decent standard and should be hard to beat
2.42 Cloudy Skye
Running well in better races and can make the most of a drop in class
3.12 Embesto (NB)
Career best when a close-up third in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot
3.42 Burglar’s Dream
Quirky but talented, first-time cheekpieces can help him focus
4.12 Retracement
Promising debut effort and looks different class
4.42 It’s Showtime
Creeping up the weights but comes here in fantastic form
5.12 Asmund
Brings winning form to the table in what’s a poor race
Uttoxeter
1.50 Global Skies
Useful on the level and should have too much class on hurdling debut
2.25 Somespring Special
Smashing mare, jumps for fun and plenty in her favour
2.55 Hometown Boy (nap)
Fragile but very talented, won well at Worcester and more to come
3.25 Glinger Flame (treble)
Progressive last season and return to this trip can see him go close
3.55 Moonset (Lucky 15)
Smart Point form and only just held in a bumper in Nov
4.25 Getoverthathill
Point winner and can go well in a weak contest if ready to roll
4.55 Karannelle
Powerful win at Newton Abbot and 7lb penalty unlikely to stop her
5.25 Moonlight Glory
Inconsistent but just the type to pop up at a decent odds
