MARTIN Lewis’ Money Saving Expert has unveiled a free “check & call trick” to cut phone bills down to just £4-a-month.

In the latest edition of Martin Lewis‘ Money Saving Expert newsletter, the financial guru has uncovered a dead-simple way to cut your mobile phone costs that’s too good to ignore.

Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert has shared a handy trick to slash your phone bill
The simple trick can cut your costs to just £4

This trick is a game-changer for the staggering 14 million Brits who are out of contract and potentially paying way over the odds for their mobile service.

Many people forget their contract end date, continuing to pay the same monthly fee even after their handset is fully paid off.

According to Money Saving Expert, this is “a dodgy trick that should be banned.”

But until it is, your best move is to find out when your contract ends and start shopping for a better deal ASAP.

To see if you’re eligible to switch to a cheaper plan, Money Saving Expert suggests using a new initiative from Ofcom, the telecoms regulator, aimed at combating unnecessary loyalty fees.

The best part is how simple it is – all you have to do is text INFO to 85075.

You’ll get an instant reply telling you when your contract is up, except for Three customers, who need to verify their identity with their date of birth first, and those with multiple-phone contracts.

If your contract is up and you don’t need a new phone, switching to a SIM-only deal can save you a bundle.

The best deal now is Lebara, which uses Vodafone’s network.

For just £1-a-month for the first seven months and £7.90-a-month after that, you get 15GB of data, unlimited minutes and texts, and free roaming in Europe.

That averages out to just £3.90-a-month over the first year – a money-saving bargain.

Plus, it’s a rolling contract, so you can cancel anytime, even during or after the introductory period.

Another offer comes from iD Mobile. Their 12-month SIM-only deal averages £4.50-a-month over the first year, providing 30GB of data, unlimited minutes and texts, and free roaming in Europe.

For the first three months, you’ll pay just £4-a-month, and £8 thereafter, with a £30 Amazon or Currys voucher thrown in when you sign up.

Before choosing a plan, make sure to do your homework.

Don’t assume that more data means a better deal – most people only use about 3GB per month, so check your actual usage to avoid overpaying.

If you’re happy with your current provider, consider calling them up and asking for a better deal.

Katerina, a savvy saver who followed the ingenious advice, said: “I’ve saved £324-a-year on my monthly contract price and even managed to stay on the same network.”

Phone bills are just the beginning when it comes to Martin’s Money Saving Expert savvy advice.

As schools break up for the summer holidays this week, the money saving guru shared useful information for parents.

Martin revealed how parents can get free cereal for their kids at major supermarkets, helping parent’s pockets across the country.

And that’s not all, for those planning on flying out this summer, don’t miss Martin’s “last second” tip that could save you £100s in hidden airport charges.

5 easy steps to slash your phone bill

Money Saving Expert shares a simple 5-step trick to cut your phone bill costs to just £4

Step 1: Check Your Contract End Date

  • Many people continue paying their phone bill after their contract ends. To avoid this, find out when your contract is up.

Step 2: Text INFO to 85075

  • Use Ofcom’s new tool to get an instant reply about your contract’s end date. Note: Three customers need to verify their identity, and those on multiple-phone contracts may face delays.

Step 3: Evaluate Your Current Plan

  • If your contract is over and you don’t need a new phone, consider switching to a SIM-only deal to save money.

Step 4: Do your homework – look out for the best deals

  • Lebara: £1/month for the first 7 months, then £7.90/month. This plan offers 15GB of data, unlimited calls and texts, and free roaming in Europe. The average monthly cost over the first year is £3.90.
  • iD Mobile: £4/month for the first 3 months, then £8/month. This plan provides 30GB of data, unlimited calls and texts, and free roaming in Europe, plus a £30 voucher for Amazon or Currys. The average cost over the first year is £4.50.
  • Check your data usage. Most people use about 3GB per month, so choose a plan that fits your actual needs.

Step 5: Negotiate with Your Current Provider

  • If you’re satisfied with your current provider, call them to see if they can offer a better deal.
