SALINA (KSNT) - Agents with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) are being called to Salina following an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday night.

KBI spokeswoman Melissa Underwood issued a press release on July 25 regarding a situation that resulted in a death in the Salina community. Officers with the Salina Police Department were called around 7:30 p.m. on July 24 to the 500 block of North 12th Street on reports a man with a felony warrant was at the location.

Officers arriving at the scene spoke with the homeowner who confirmed a 44-year-old Salina man was in a detached garage east of the house. Police tried to enter the garage and arrest Wray for an outstanding warrant.

Initial reporting from the KBI shows as officers were taking Wray into custody, they heard another individual in the garage. Officers ordered the man, identified as Jesse D. Wray, 25, of Salina, to leave but he refused. He allegedly began threatening law enforcement and was seen holding a gun.

Wray barricaded himself inside the garage with police at the scene calling for help from the Salina SWAT Team and Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP). While waiting for SWAT officers, police saw a fire inside the garage. A woman then exited the garage, followed by Wray. An exchange of gunfire then occurred between Wray and law enforcement. Wray was pronounced dead at the scene.
