Samsung's Galaxy Ring is now available to purchase for $399.99.

Samsung released its new Galaxy Ring on July 24, following a rollout that included an announcement of its existence in January, showing off prototypes at MWC 2024 in February, and an official launch on July 10.

The Galaxy Ring is designed as a discreet health-tracking wearable for your finger, with features powered by Samsung's Galaxy AI, which we detail below. The Galaxy Ring is available to order now from Samsung, Amazon, and other major retailers.

Samsung Galaxy Ring: Features

The Galaxy Ring's exterior is clad in titanium, and it includes sensors in the interior of the ring, like a heart-rate monitor and temperature sensors that track several metrics like sleep, activity, menstrual cycles, and exercise, among others. It's also water resistant up to 300 feet (100 meters), so it's easily suitable for swimming workouts.

Samsung says the index finger is preferred for the Galaxy Ring, but this show unit could only fit my pinky.
Unlike a smartwatch, the Galaxy Ring (a direct competitor to the Oura Ring) is designed to be worn 24/7 — at least, until its battery dies after six or seven days, depending on the size of the ring you pick (and that fits you). A charging dock is included with the Galaxy Ring that holds one and a half times the charge of the ring, so about nine or 10 days of extra battery life.

There are seven sizes to choose from. To figure out what size fits you, you can order a sizing kit that costs $10 to order, but that cost is credited back to you once you purchase a Galaxy Ring. The ring molds in the sizing kit are made of recyclable plastic and are designed to be discarded after you've determined which size fits you best.

The Galaxy Ring's charging dock case can hold 1.5x the charge of the Galaxy Ring itself.

The Galaxy Ring isn't cheap, starting at $399.99. At that price, you could buy a Galaxy Watch 7 for less, and the Galaxy Watch 7 does a lot more than the Galaxy Ring — like showing the time, workout progress, and a huge variety of relevant and useful information on a compact display.

A smartwatch also shows your phone's notifications and takes an ECG reading. But the Galaxy Ring is designed for those who might not like smartwatches, for whatever reason. The Galaxy Ring is significantly lighter, more discreet, and has longer battery life than a smartwatch. If these characteristics sound good to you despite the shortcomings compared to a smartwatch, you might be the target customer.

AI-backed features

Samsung's Galaxy AI for its latest wearables, including the Galaxy Ring, the Galaxy Watch 7, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra, focuses on two new features — Energy Score and Wellness Tips.

Energy Score gives you an idea of your daily physical and mental condition based on seven metrics related to sleep, activity, and heart rate. That data is collected by the Galaxy Ring and processed by AI on an Android phone running the Samsung Health app, and you get a score out of 100.

The Galaxy Ring supports Samsung's Galaxy AI for two major features, including Energy Score and Wellness Tips.

Wellness Tips is designed to be an AI personal coach. It delivers insights and personalized recommendations for exercise, sleep, stress, water intake, and other aspects, all based on data collected by the Galaxy Ring and processed by Galaxy AI. It also tracks your daily condition over time to report on progress and makes recommendations for adjustments you can make to become healthier.

You can check your Energy Score and Wellness Tips in the Samsung Health app on any Android phone that supports the app. A specific Insight function in the Energy Score feature requires a Galaxy device that runs Galaxy AI, however, and isn't available on non-Samsung Android devices.
