In a reversal, Georgia now says districts can use state funding to teach AP Black studies classes

Georgia state Superintendent Richard Woods now says the state will pay for districts to teach a new Advanced Placement course in African American Studies. The announcement came Wednesday, a day after Woods said districts could only teach the course using local funds. The state now says districts can teach the course and the state will pay as long as districts use a code for an existing state-approved African American studies course. Democrats are attacking Woods, an elected Republican. They say he is trying to prevent students from learning about Georgia’s history. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp is asking why Woods arrived at his original decision to block state funding.
