OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- Investigators are asking for help in solving the murder of an off-duty corrections officer.

St. Landry Crime Stoppers and Opelousas Det. Mike Hidalgo took to social media on Wednesday, urging the public to come forward with any information they may have regarding the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Chanterria "Macky" Albert.

Opelousas police said they received a report of shots fired around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, where they found multiple shell casings near the 1100 block of Park Avenue. Witnesses reported to police that they heard about 30 shots coming from the area, police said.

OPD then learned of two gunshot victims at the hospital, one of them being Albert. The other victim, was in stable condition, authorities said.

Albert was employed at the St. Landry Parish jail for less than two years, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in April.

"Corrections Deputy Chanterria 'Mackey' Albert was hired on May 10, 2022, in Corrections and served alongside of her mother, Deputy Cherikas Albert. Albert was only 22 years old and was an exemplary deputy. She will be sorely missed," Guidroz said in April.

Anyone with information about the shooting can provide anonymous tips by calling 1-337-948-TIPS or by dialing **TIPS.
