Mystery as ‘human remains’ found on banks of River Wear – sparking police investigation
COPS have launched an urgent probe after human remains were found in a Sunderland river.
The grim discovery was made in the River Wear at just after 10am this morning, near Wear Street.
Northumbria Police arrived at the scene after a member of public reported their find.
A force spokesperson said: “At around 10:05am today (Wednesday), we received a report of suspected human remains having been discovered on the riverbank near to Wear Street in South Hylton.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene to carry out enquiries.”
