Ahmad Akbari, commander of the 444th Engineering Group of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, has announced the commencement of technical work on the border sealing project in northeastern Iran with four engineering groups.

According to the Iranian Mehr News Agency on Tuesday, July 23, General Akbari reported that the project to seal the shared borders between the Khorasan Razavi region and Herat province spans 300 kilometres and is currently underway.

Akbari emphasized that the walls of this project will be 4 meters high, 3 meters and 70 centimetres long, and 1 meter and 10 centimetres thick.

The Iranian Ground Forces have prepared the necessary infrastructure for the implementation of this project along the northeastern borders of the country using domestic resources.

So far, Taliban officials have not commented on this matter.

Additionally, Mahdi Shir-Del, the district governor of Taybad, Iran, stated, “The official Dougarun crossing is the main gateway for the entry and exit of Afghan nationals into the Islamic Republic of Iran, ensuring 100% security with the presence of armed forces and local residents at this point on the country’s borders.”

Previously, Iranian authorities had announced efforts to seal the borders with Afghanistan to prevent illegal entry of individuals.

According to reports, the President of Iran has allocated three billion dollars to the Armed Forces Headquarters for border sealing measures.

It should be noted that Khorasan Razavi province in eastern Iran shares approximately 302 kilometres of border with Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Iran’s initiative to reinforce its northeastern borders highlights a significant effort to enhance security and control over border crossings, aiming to manage and regulate movement effectively amidst regional challenges and security concerns.
