Looking Back At 2020 Tokyo Games: Neeraj Chopra’s Javelin Gold Headlines India’s Best-Ever Olympics Medal Haul
New Delhi: The 2020 Tokyo Olympics had to be postponed to 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. But Indian javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra made it an event to remember, becoming only the 2nd Indian athlete after Abhinav Bindra to win an Olympic gold.
India vaulted up to seven medals in Tokyo from the disappointment of Rio with Neeraj leading the way. Weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Ravi Kumar Dahiya winning two silver medals while shuttler PV Sindhu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain, Indian men’s hockey team and wrestler Bajrang Punia won bronze medals as India ended up in 48th position.
The USA ended up leading the medals tally again with 39 gold and 113 medals while China returned to 2nd spot with 38 gold and 89 medals. Hosts Japan rose to third place with 27 gold and 58 medals to their name.
