ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The application process has opened to fill a seat with the Albany Pine Hills Authority following the closure of the College of Saint Rose. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced applicants on Tuesday.

The appointed board member is responsible for deciding what happens to the former college's vacant buildings, issuing bonds, and collecting fees and other income. Applicant requirements include being a resident of Albany County and not employed by the city or county of Albany. It's preferred that applicants are residents of the Pine Hill neighborhood and the city of Albany and have experience with economic development, commercial real estate, or planning and zoning.

The application process will close on Friday, Aug. 23. Sheehan said the authority's option to obtain and ensure the city's core is vibrant and active is important.

"The closing of Saint Rose was devastating for the staff, students, and neighborhood of Pine Hills," Sheehan said. "This campus acted as the centerpiece for the neighborhood and brought people from all over to study and live in our great city."
