Vera fans make desperate plea to ITV bosses after Brenda Blethyn bids sad farewell to beloved show
VERA fans have made a desperate plea to show bosses ahead of the crime drama’s imminent end.
Brenda Blethyn, 78, has portrayed the titular detective since the programme began in 2011.

Two 90-minute episodes, which will air in 2025, are due to serve as Vera‘s finale.
As upset viewers prepare to say their final goodbyes, some devotees have put forward an idea for the franchise to continue.
They are suggesting that ITV green-light a spin-off titled Young Vera, which would still follow the adored character.
Taking to X, a fan penned: “People are going to miss Vera so much. Now we need ITV to commission Young Vera. I’d love to see her early days on screen.”
Another responded: “Ooh genius idea!”
A third added: “Brilliant idea, that would be a very interesting programme to watch”
Earlier this month, the show’s cast were reportedly shooting the programme’s final ever episode.
However, Brenda shared in a social media post that they had made time to raise funds for charity.
Alongside a picture of an elaborate Vera-themed cake, the actress wrote: “Last few days of filming VERA but we still have time for Macmillan fundraiser.”
The cancer charity responded: “Hi Brenda, thank you so much for your amazing support and for your kind words. It really does mean the world to us.”
With filming wrapped up, Brenda later wrote on X: “Travelling home after finishing filming of Series 14 of VERA. Tired and emotional.”
A viewer commented: “Oh Brenda . I can imagine Vera been a huge part of your life so long.
“We will miss you on screen as Vera.
