Singapore has the most powerful, Afghanistan the least valuable passport in the world

Recent global passport rankings reveal that Singapore holds the most powerful passport, while Afghanistan’s passport is ranked among the least valuable.

A British organization that annually assesses and ranks passports based on their global strength has placed Singapore at the top of the list for 2024. Holders of Singaporean passports can travel visa-free to 195 out of 227 countries.

In stark contrast, Afghanistan’s passport is at the bottom of the rankings, marking it as the least valuable passport globally over the past two decades.

Afghan passport holders can only access 26 countries without a visa, a situation unprecedented in the last decade.

The 2024 global passport rankings indicate that following Singapore, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Japan possess some of the most powerful passports in the world.

The low value of Afghanistan passports is largely attributed to ongoing political instability, the Taliban regime, an unrecognized government in Afghanistan, security concerns, and a lack of diplomatic relations with many countries.

This situation reflects broader issues of international trust and geopolitical challenges that impact the mobility of Afghan citizens. The disparity in passport value underscores the significant impact of global and regional politics on travel freedom and international standing.
