Man to stand trial in British Bases Court for Ormidia shooting

A 45-year-old man who shot another man in the head in Ormidia will be tried at a British Bases Court in Dhekelia, it was announced on Wednesday. The suspect, Costas Antoniou, is set to plead not guilty to the charge of premeditated murder in the death of 52-year-old Charalambos Constantinides.

The court heard that Antoniou chose the bases’ court for his trial. The trial is scheduled to begin on August 1.

During the initial investigation, Antoniou admitted to shooting Constantinides in the head with a hunting rifle. The incident occurred after an argument over money.

Officer Panicos Panayi confirmed that the dispute involved “financial differences” between Antoniou and Constantinides. When asked if the disagreement was over €1,500, Panayi responded, “this is something to be investigated.”

The murder took place on the night of June 25 at around 11 pm at an autobody paint shop in Ormidia.
