India’s White-Ball Campaign in Sri Lanka Begins with Gambhir at the Helm

0

Tuesday marked the first practice session for the Indian men’s cricket team under new head coach Gautam Gambhir. The practice came just before the squad’s three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka.

Leading the team to the ground and supervising the training session, which included fielding drills and sessions with the players, was Gambhir, who took over as captain in lieu of the departed Rahul Dravid.

The majority of the training session focused on one-on-one conversations, running, and catching. Suryakumar Yadav, the recently appointed T20I captain, engaged in conversation with the players as well.

Gambhir was observed conversing with all-rounder Shivam Dube and offering some batting advice to Sanju Samson.

During the Sri Lankan trip, Gambhir’s coaching staff includes former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and Dutch batsman Ryan ten Doeschate. The trio had just worked together to win the IPL 2024 championship with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

On July 27, they will play a T20I series and three ODIs as part of their first assignment with the national team.

As the fielding coach, T Dilip, a member of Dravid’s support staff, will stay on. Sairaj Bahutule, who is connected to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, will also take on the role of acting bowling coach in the interim.
