IAG calls for urgent action on SAF supply

0

Luis Gallego, CEO of IAG (International Airlines Group) is calling for more production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and the Government backing to make it happen.

“Sustainable aviation fuels are the most viable solution to help decarbonise aviation,” Luis Gallego said. “We urgently need producers to scale up the supply of SAF and we would like to support a domestic industry here in the UK, which could generate hundreds of millions of pounds in economic growth and thousands of jobs across the country. We welcome the commitment in the King’s Speech to put in place a mechanism, which needs to be backed by Government, to give SAF investors the price certainty they tell us they need.”

It comes as IAG is continuing to add additional suppliers of SAF after the group’s largest SAF purchase agreement to date was announced in February with e-SAF (power-to-liquid) producer Twelve.

Twelve will supply advanced e-SAF made from CO2, water and renewable energy.

As of December 2023, IAG’s total investment in SAF is $1 billion. The group has already secured one-third of the SAF required to meet its target to fly with 10% SAF by 2030.
