Son of Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy to play QB for Emporia State
EMPORIA (KSNT) - With MIAA career touchdown leader Braden Gleason out of eligibility, there will be a quarterback competition for Emporia State football in the 2024 season.
Among those attempting to make their case: Gunnar Gundy, son of long-term Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy.
Gunnar played three seasons under his father with the Cowboys. He redshirted as a freshman, playing in four games each of the next two seasons.
Gunnar completed 55 percent of his passes at Oklahoma State, throwing four touchdowns and four interceptions. He added a rushing score in the Cowboys' 31-23 bowl game win over Texas A&M.
Following the 2023 season, Gunnar entered the transfer portal and chose to play at Ohio. After a few days on campus, he re-entered the transfer portal and wound up at Emporia State.
Gunnar is expected to compete with fellow transfer Daron Bryden and long-time backup Chase Ricke for the starting quarterback spot with the Hornets.
