'Look in a mirror': Internet roasts MTG for calling Secret Service chief 'incompetent'

With President Joe Biden abandoning his campaign for a second term and throwing his full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, Republicans are still eager to go after his administration — and one of them is firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

In particular, the far-right lawmaker took to X to accuse Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle of covering up mismanagement at the Secret Service in a new congressional hearing, following the failed assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

"I’ve never seen a more incompetent woman in my life," she wrote. "Cheatle should have resigned. Instead she’s covering it all up, refusing to answer questions and hand over information. She may be more than incompetent. She may be complicit."

Commenters on social media had a field day with Greene's remarks. Many Trump supporters agreed, calling for Cheatle to be arrested or prosecuted for various perceived crimes. But many others were less impressed. Some pointed out to Greene that of course Cheatle couldn't give complete answers about matters that are actively under investigation.

"She's not covering anything up there's an investigation in place," wrote the account @caringguy1957. "She wants to ensure that she gives the correct answers." "It honestly doesn't mean much coming from you," wrote the account @A_tothe_Z_Amber. "I'm not sure what you were expecting to be said while the investigation is still on going and you opted for a public hearing."

"Uh. Look in the mirror, Marge," wrote the account @ArtCandee — one of many, many comments that said variants of this.

"The lack of self-awareness here," wrote the account @ChidiNwatu.

"I can name at least one..." wrote the account @MikeRunsMiles.

"You were cheering when they lost the texts, passwords, and emails surrounding January 6th. Sit down, Mad Bomber," wrote the account @DorlandRon.

Despite all of the ridicule of Greene, a bipartisan consensus seems to agree with her, as Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, called on Cheatle to step down.
