I gave my daughter a beautiful name – people say it’s ‘pretty on paper’ but an ‘immediate no’ when you say it out loud
SOME people spend years picking out the perfect name for their future children, wanting to make sure it’s something they’ll love forever.
But one dad has revealed the name for his daughter has reminded him of something else – and now he can’t unhear it.
Although the couple picked a relatively common name for their daughter, it was the pairing of that name and the middle name he can’t get over.
He took to Reddit to explain and wrote: “We loved the name ‘Aurora Sara’ where Aurora is her first name and Sara (pronounced ‘sawr-uh’) is her middle name.”
The dad explained that he and his partner wanted an American-sounding first name, and a Turkish middle name for the tot.
And even though the couple were more than happy with their choices, the dad soon realised the names sound a bit funny when they’re said together.
He said: “I noticed though that depending on how you say her first and middle name together, it sounds like a type of dinosaur, like ‘Aurorasaurus’ or ‘Aurorasar’.
“Am I overthinking this, or should we think of a different first/middle name?”
“My wife got annoyed when I brought it up to her, although it might have something to do with the fact that I started mimicking the Jurassic Park theme after saying ‘Aurorasaurus’,” he continued.
But it turns out the dad wasn’t the only one who thought the combination of the names sounded like a dinosaur..
“You needed one minute to come up with that. Surely your kid’s classmates will outmatch you with that and other names,” one said, warning the dad.
Another agreed the names a “beautiful” on their own but sound “clunky as hell together, even if they didn’t make her sound like a dinosaur, which they absolutely do.”
“You can’t do that to your kid, I beg you change it, sounds like a disease too,” someone else chimed in.
But some people thought the dad was overthinking the whole thing.
“No, it’s not tragic,” one said, “I really like Aurora.
“Also, very few people end up using their middle names outside of official documents so Arorasauras can stay as a little family Easter egg.”
“It’s really not that bad, I’d have never put that together so don’t see why others would,” another said.
But that’s not the only baby name that’s caused a stir online recently, one mum was recently slammed after it was revealed that she named her baby after a celebrity, and a brand of crackers.
Taking to Reddit, the woman explained that her mum had made up an original name for her sister, by combining the name of her favourite actress, and a brand of cheesy snacks.
The woman revealed: “My mum named my sister after Cheez-Its and a celebrity.
“My sister’s name is Cheezka.
“She was named after an actress who goes by ‘Francesca’ and because my mum’s friend gave her a box of Cheez-Its as a baby shower gift.”
Cheez-Its is a brand of American cheese-flavoured crackers.
The post was flooded with responses from Reddit users, many of whom were in shock at the unique name.
One person said: “Literally one of the worst names I’ve heard in my life”.

When I was a child, all I wanted was one of those personalised keyrings with my name on it.
But no joy, the closest I could find was Rosie, Joseph (not great for a little girl) and Joanne.
Josie is short for Josephine, which is a French name, and I managed to reach my 20s without ever meeting anyone who shared it.
When I try to introduce myself to people, I get all sorts of random things – like Tracey and Stacey – which can be pretty annoying.
Although I have come into contact with a couple of Josies over the last year – there seems to be a few of us around my age – it’s still a much rarer name than most of my friends have.
On the whole I don’t mind it, at least it’s not rude or crazily spelt.
And it means I can get away with ‘doing a Cheryl’ and just referring to myself as Josie.
I’m getting married this year and some friends are shocked that I’m changing my surname, as it’s not seen as very cool or feminist to do so these days, but I explain to them that I’m not that attached to Griffiths as I’d always just say ‘hi it’s Josie’ when ringing a mate up.
I think it’s nice to be unique and I’ll definitely try and replicate this when naming my own kids.
It’s the rude names you’ve got to watch out for, so after nine years as a lifestyle journalist I’ll definitely be avoiding those.
