THE world’s biggest nightclub is set to open in Spain – with as many as 15,000 partygoers inside.

Privilege was founded in the early 1970’s, first as a restaurant and then as a bar and a swimming pool.

In 1987 Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe filmed the video inside the club for their song Barcelona.

In 1979 it was sold to footballer Jose Antonio Santamaria and changed its name to Ku, gaining a reputation as a predominately gay place.

After changing owner, it was re-named Privilege in 1995, and it then sadly closed in 2019.

It has since received more than €8million from the Spanish government to fund the extensive restoration work.

Scaffolding and construction vehicles can be seen at the enormous 6,500 square metre club, which closed during the Covid pandemic in 2020 and has not re-opened since.

The inside venue, with a main room the size of an aircraft hangar, could not open during the pandemic and has since been left to the elements, with paint peeling from the walls and metal left to rust.

The hugely-popular club, which is located close to the village of San Rafael, is renowned for its summer party nights, which are set to be revived after the reconstruction is finished.

It had a capacity for 10,000 clubbers, but following the renovations it will hold 15,000 people.

A date for the re-opening has not yet been given, although some have said it could by next year.

A section of the club which has a pyramidal glass structure is called Vista club and is popular with those who like house and techno music.

Celebrities, including Boy George, Madonna, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell and Tina Turner, have been visiting the club for decades and it is also mentioned in the film Kevin & Perry Go Large.

Ibiza also has the best nightclub in the world, according to music magazine DJ Mag.

Last year, Hï Ibiza was crowned the globe’s best nightclub for the second year in a row.

Rumours suggest it could open by 2025[/caption]

The Ibiza institution was first opened in 2017 by Ushuaïa Entertainment, a global entertainment company.

Of course, there are lots of other amazing things to do in Ibiza, such as visiting the castle in the historical Old Town.

The Spanish island also has more than 80 beaches to choose from, with many having golden sands and even dolphins.

Flights to Ibiza cost around £21 each way, and we’ve found some bargain deals this summer.

Love Island's Arabella Chi's insider guide to Ibiza

Best restaurant
“Every year I take my parents to a new restaurant.

“For the views, Casa Maca has a really good vibe and the food is phenomenal. You have to book a month in advance though.

Best club
“Every night is different so this is a tricky one. But I’d probably say DC10 is still my favourite.

“It has two good nights I love – Paradise and Circoloco – and the music there is amazing.”

Best beach bars
“Experimental Beach Ibiza is my favourite by far. It’s a place for the sunset with a really good vibe – a lot of hippies and everyone plays the bongos as sun goes down.”

Best beach
“There are a lot of coves that people don’t realise.

“There is Cala Salada where you have to go over rocks to get to it – it’s hard to get to but the water is Maldives-crystal clear.

“There is one beach restaurant on it but it’s not good so you take your own lunch.

“Another nice one is Cala Comte which again has really clear water, and there is a really nice restaurant on it called Cotton Beach Club. “
